I believe that when your body gets to that level of leanness it knows it isn't able to grow/sustain life and halts the process by not ovulating. I read it somewhere once...?

I have done a LOT of research on this... and I mean a lot... it's simply not a lack of bodyfat % but overall energy availability in the body. for example you take 2 different competitor- same bodyfat levels with similar normal body compositions. 1 loses her period and the other remains normal... generally the girl that loses her cycle has gone to extreme measures dieting down... the other perhaps more moderate, balanced with a better supply of nutrients and incorporated rest and refeeds. you have to take a step outside the box and ask yourself if your means of dieting are a little wacky or more sane?!

I have also seen women that have dieted down very sanely and have lost their cycles too. I seem to not lose mine but it does get longer in between.

I wish there was a way to do some sort of study on this in regards to the sensitivities of ones system- i.e teenage related dieting and athleticism vs. current methodologies. I know my system is super sensitive from years of figure skating and off and on dieting (thank you coaches for the absurd pressure). science can only say so much eh?!

I'm bringing this thread to the top again b/c I have consistently noticed that when I'm JUST starting to lean out or am getting back into successful dieting I'm getting mine 2x per month (more like spotting the second time). I couldn't be eating healthier and I NEVER go below 9x BW. I'm usually between 10 and 13 but it's pretty low fat (20-30g per day). I have not had a big weight loss on the scale - maybe 4 pounds.
This has happened while doing my own plan and on Noel's.

Has anyone experienced or heard of this coinciding with dieting?

I've not heard of this specifically in regards to dieting, but it sounds like you may be experiencing ovulation breakthrough bleeding.

Just a quick link via google (I'm not hardly keeping any pregnancy site links).
